Group Walk Sunday 14th July.

Fosbury Camp Hillfort circular. 3 miles.

Crofton beam engine tower and building

Date: Sunday 14th July

Time: 10.00am - 11.45am

Location: Fosbury

Our route up to Fosbury Camp Hillfort led steadily and gently uphill from Fosbury along Tunball Lane. At the top we turned left along tree bordered tracks to reach the fort. This hillfort is an iron age bivallate earthwork (with two banks & two ditches). There are impressive ramparts from where our group of 14 walkers enjoyed the extensive views in splendidly clear weather.

The right of way goes through the hillfort and continues down in the direction of Vernham Dean but our group were able to take a shorter route back down to Fosbury by private arrangement with the land manager. This walk was kindly arranged and led by one of our members, Katharine Graves, and after the walk she invited us back to her pretty garden in Fosbury for refreshments in the sunshine.

Please note: Cattle graze the open access land at the hillfort.
